
Prof. Rebecca Wambua holds a PhD in Distance Education from the University of Nairobi. She trained Maasai Mara University on online teaching, instructional material development, and the creation of an ODeL policy. She is currently Commonwealth Learning Consultant. She provided instructional material development training to the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. Dr. Wambua has trained the University of Embu and Adventist University of Africa on Best Practices, Curriculum Review and Module Development for Purely Online Programs.On March 26–29, 2024, she spoke as a guest speaker at the 7th African Council for Distance Education Triennial Conference.
On February 23, 2024, she gave a keynote address at the Higher Education e-Learning Technologies International Conference (HiETeC-2024). She also served as a keynote speaker at the 2023 eLearning Conference, which took place at the University of Embu from November 2–3.
She has served in the education sector for over 32 years (17 years at the prestigious Riara Group of Schools and 15 years in the university (Kenya Methodist University, Riara University, Africa Nazarene University). She is a senior lecturer at Africa Nazarene University. She is the current Chairperson of Distance Open and e-Learning Practitioners’ Association of East Africa and the Chairperson of Distance Open and e-Learning Practitioners’ Association of Kenya.
Both associations consist of over 250 senior faculty members from more than 60 universities in Eastern Africa. Dr. Wambua has played various leadership roles at the university level. She served as the Director of the Institute of Open, Distance and e-Learning in Africa Nazarene University, the Coordinator for Education and Counselling programmes, the School Based Coordinator and as the Head of Distance Education and e-Learning at Kenya Methodist University.
She has keen interest in Distance, Open and e-Learning and has Co-authored 9 peer reviewed articles, published 6 books co- authored 9 instructional manuals (for Kenya Methodist University, Kenya Education Management Institute and Open University of Kenya) and edited 12 instructional manuals for African Virtual University.
She is a 2026-2028 elected CROSSREF Director and was awarded by London School of Digital Business, on 25th September, 2025 for Valuable Contribution to the Education Industry
